Henry Brown, an ‘American legislator, born in 1815; was graduated at Brown University in 1883; became editor and publisher of the “ Journal,” in Providence, R. I.; elected Governor of Rhode Island in 1849 and 1850; United States Senator from 1859 till his death; and > was elected President pro tem. of the United States Senate in 1863, 1871, and 1884. The perpendicular fall is 17 feet, with a rapid below of 58 feet. /An island divides the river into two ‘parts. ‘The entire descent of the stream for three-quarters of a mile is 65 feet. The falls and surrounding scenery, especially during the spring floods, are exceedingly picturesque.
