Hunt, William H

(1824-1884), of Louisiana, was appointed Judge of the U. S. Court of Claims in 1878. He was Secretary of the Navy in Garfield’s Cabinet from 1881 to 1882, when he was appointed Minister to Ru ia.: Hunter, David (1802-1886), commanded the main column of Mc- Dowell’s army in the Mana as campaign in 1861, and commanded a division at Bull Run. He succeeded General Frémont in command of the Western Department. He commanded the Department of Kansas from 1861 to 1862, when he was transferred to the Southern Department. He organized the first regiment of colored troops, In 1864 he commanded the Department of West Virginia. He was president of the commi ion which tried the a a ins of President Lincoln. He was brevetted major-general in 1865 and retired from service in 1866.
