Institute of France

Organized in 1795, it has been modified by the changes in the national government, yet has survived them all. It is now divided into 5 academies, each having its own officers, methods, and publications: 1. Academie Française; 2. Academie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres; 3. Academie des Sciences; 4. Academie des Beaux-Arts; 5. Academie des Sciences morales et politiques. Each year on Oct. 25 the Institute holds a general meeting. The yearly salary given each member is 1,500 francs, of the secrétaires perpetuels is 6,000 francs.
