The Datura stramonium an; indigenous narct>tic plant, the seeds and leaves of which are used in medicine. The dried leaves are occasionally smoked, like tobacco, for the relief of spasmodic asthma; and an extract of the seeds is used as a sedative in some painful chronic affections. See Daturia.
