Jugurtha

(joo-gurthah,) a king of Numidia at the end of the 2d century, B. c. He was the grandson of Ma ani a, but illegitimate, and brought upby Micipsa, along with his own sons, and left a share of the kingdom by him at his death. He, however, murdered both of them, and made himself master of the whole. The Romans therefore made war upon him, and after a long struggle he was conquered, made prisoner, led in triumph by Marius, and starved to death in prison at Rome, 106 B. c. [s. 509]
