An eel of the family Ophichthyidæ or Ophisurida; especially, Ophich thys serpens of the Mediterranean, reaching a length of 6 feet: so called because the tail has no tail-fin, and thus resembles a snake's. snake-feeder (snāk'fē" dėr), n. 1. Same as snake-doctor, 1. [Ohio.] -2. Same as snake doctor, 2. snake-fence (snak'fens), n. under fence. snake-fern (snāk'fėrn), n. fern, Scolopendrium vulgare.
