An eel of the family Ophichthyidæ or Ophisurida; especially, Ophich thys serpens of the Mediterranean, reaching a length of 6 feet: so called because the tail has no tail-fin, and thus resembles a snake's. snake-feeder (snāk'fē" dėr), n. 1.
