Aboukir

a small village on the Egyptian coast, 10 miles B. of Alexandria. Aboukir bay is celebrated for the naval battle in which Nelson annihilated the French fleet on Aug. 1-2, 1798. This decisive vietory gained Nelson the title of Baron Nelson of the Nile; and the battle is often spoken of as the battle of the Nile.
