[Lat., from Gr. hēmina, from hemisus half.] 1. Rom . Antiq .: An ancient Roman measure containing half a sextarius, or about half a pint English wine measure. 2. Med .: A measure containing about ten fluid ounces. hem-i-oc-ta-he-dral, a. [Pref. hem i-, and Eng. octahedral (q. v.).] Crystal. & Min .: Having half the number of planes which a genuine octahedron would po e ; tetrahedral. thăm-i-ô-log-a-mous, a. [Prefix hem i-; Gr. holos whole, entire, and gamos marriage.] Bot .: Having a flower consisting of two florets, the one neuter and the other hermaphrodite. Used of gra es like Panicum.
