(Lat. cantar i a.) A little chapel or altar, commonly in some church, endowed (before the Reformation) with revenues for the maintenance of a priest to perform prayers for the soul of the founder and others. Chantries were di olved in England by 1 Ed. 6. c. 14. [s. 226]
