[Greek tanyō =to stretch out, and stoma a mouth.] Entom.: A tribe of Diptera (q. v.), with several families. The antenne consist apparently of three joints, but often with indications of articulation in the third joint, and with a terminal bristle; the palpi of not more than two joints, and the mouth tinct head, and produce free pupe.
