Western Reserve

The name applied to a tract of country reserved by the state of Connecticut at the time of the ce ion of the northwest ter ritory to the General Government, in 1800. From the sale to settlers, in small lots, of the land thus reserved the state derived its school fund. The tract consisted of nearly four millions of acres, and now forms a portion of the state of Ohio.
