Pole-star

or POLAR IS. (Ast.) The star a in the constellation Ursa Minor, so called because it is situate very near the North Pole. It is of the 2d magnitude, and is easily found, because the two outer stars of the quadrangle, in the Great Bear, point to it. [s. 719]
