phenacite, phenakite

[Gr. phenax =a - ite; Ger.phengit.] deceiver; suff. -ite; Ger. phenakit.] Min.: A mineral which at one time was taken for Mineralogy : 1. The same as Muscovite (q. v.); this name has quartz, hence its name. Crystallization, rhombolately, however, been adopted by Tschermak for hedral. Hardne , 75-8; specific gravity, 2-96-3; luster, vitreous; colorle , occasionally wine-yellow; transparent; fracture, like that of quartz. Composition: Silica, 54-2; glucina, 45-8=100, yielding the formula 2BeO, SiO2. It is found near Ekaterinburg, Perm, Ru ia; rarely at other places. phěn-a-còn-ic, adj.
