Prepared by distilling a mixture of calcium naphthoate and calcium formate ata high temperature. It forms dazzling white crystals, insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in boiling water, but soluble in alcohol and ether; melts at 59.5°, and is converted by nascent hydrogen into uncrystallizable compounds difficult to purify.
