vibracula

Plural of vibraculum. vibracular (vi-brak'ū-lar), a. [ vibracularium (vi-brak-ū-lā'ri-um), n.; pl. vi bracularia (-a). [NL., see vibrate.] One of the long filamentous or flagelliform appendages of the cells or ectocysts of many polyzoans, usually articulated with short dilated proce es of the ectocyst, and executing constant lashing movements by the IMG:content-1823.png:[graphic] IMG:content-1824.jpg:[merged small][ocr errors] contraction of muscles contained in their dilated bases; a flabellarium. These lashing organs are highly characteristic, like the snapping or beak-like organs with which some polyzoans are also provided.
