Pyelitis

(pi-el-i’-tis) [ tzveIoq, a trough; irtq, inflammation]. Inflammation of the pelvis of the kidney. It may be due to the irritation of calculi, to tuberculosis, or to acute specific fevers, but most commonly is secondary to diseases of the bladder. It is marked by pain and tenderne in the lumbar region, by a remittent fever, and by the presence in the urine of albumin, mucus, epithelial cells from the pelvis of the kidney, pus corpuscles in large amount, and frequently blood.
