A muscle found in the solipeds, arising from the transverse proce es of the 3d, 4th, 5th, and 6th dorsal vertebrae and the spinous proce of the first dorsal vertebra, and attached to the transverse proce es of the first two dorsal vertebras and to the articular tubercles of the cervical vertebrae. It acts as an extensor of the head, having no distinct analogue in man, as it may represent portions of several distinct muscles. [L, 13.] f [s. 610]
