The Sunday next after Whit Sunday; so called on account of a feast which was anciently and still continues to be held on that day, in the Romish Church in honour of the Holy Trinity. This feast does not appear to have been fully established in the Western Church until the year 1334, under Pope John XXIII. [s. 1286]
