heresiographer

[English heresiog raphy); -er.] One who writes or discourses on heresies. her-e-si-og-ra-phỹ, s. [Gr. hairesis choice heresy, and grapho to write or describe.] A treatise or discourse on heresy or heretics. her-e-si-ol-o-gist, s. [Eng. heresiolog (y); -ist.] One who devotes himself to the study of the history of heresy; an an ecclesiastical historian who deals specially with heresy and heresies. Heresiologists are usually divided into three cla es: (1) Those who had to oppose the originators and supporters of heresies; (2) Those who dealt with the subject as an incident in ecclesiastical history; and (3) Those who undertook the history of any particular sect, or of all which came within their knowledge.
