longsightedness

1. A defect of sight by reason of which objects are seen distinctly when at a distance, but confusedly when close at hand. Where long-sight occurs, the eye is not sufficiently convergent, so that the image of the object looked at is formed beyond the retina. If the object be removed to a certain distance, the object will fall exactly on the retina and be clearly seen. Long-sighted ne is the usual accompaniment of advancing years.
