CHAMOIS

Rupicapra tragus (Ger. Gemse), a goatlike type of antelope (q.v.), with small horns, inhabiting the Pyrenees, Alps, Car path i ans, Caucasus, and the mountains of W. Asia. They occur in herds of up to twenty, and display remarkable agility and keenne of scent and sight.
