Numismatics

( numisma, coined money). The science of coins and medals. The earliest known coins were i ued by the Greeks, probably in the 8th century B.C. (See the Article in the Encyclopædia Britan., 8th edition, from which reference can be taken to exhaustive treatises on the various ramifications of this science.)
