LATH

(Sax. Iffitta.) In Architecture, a thin cleft piece of wood used in slating, tiling, and plastering. There are two sorts of laths, single and double; the former being barely a quarter of an inch, whilst the latter are three eighths of an inch thick. Pantile laths are long square pieces of fir on v/hich the pantiles hang. [s. 658]
