GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY

AMERICAN, founded in New York in 1852. Its objects are to stimulate and encourage exploration and discovery; to di eminate geographical information by discu ions and publications; to contribute-to commerce and navigation and establish a center where can be gathered information concerning all parts of the world for the benefit of the public. It has a most extensive and valuable collection of books, maps and charts, that have been accumulated during its existence of over 70 years. In 1916 it helped finance the Crocker qa; nd expedition. During the World War it published a volume on the relation of topography to military strategy in the various war zones of Europe.
