A white, bitter, and poisonous crystalline alkaloid, C.,Hz,N,0,, occurring in nux vomica, in various species of Strych'nos, and in ZJgnatia. It has the properties of nux vomica and of ignatia. It is much used recently in chronic alcoholism. Dose, ἀἰςτ ς gr. (0.001- 0.005 gm.). Pure strychnin is le often prescribed than its salts; the hydro chlorid, sulphate, Nitrate, citrate, and phosphate are those principally employed. The dose of these is the same as that of uncombined strychnin. See poisons, table of. 8. arsenite, a soft, white, crystalline powder: tonic and diuretic; useful in tuberculosis, malaria, dyspepsia, and skin diseases. It has been used in cases of snake-bite. Dose, gy-yy_ gr. (0.001-0.005 gm.). 8. citrate, occurs in the iron and strychnin citrate of the U. S.
