Gregg, Maxcy

soldier; born at Columbia, S. C., in 1814; studied law and acquired distinction in his profe ion; engaged in the war with Mexico as major of the 12th Infantry; was a member of the State Convention of South Carolina in 1860, and one of the committee to prepare the ordinance of sece ion; entered the Confederate army, attaining the rank of brigadier-general; killed at the battle of Fred ericks burg, Va, Dec. 13, 1862.
