a city of Rhode Island, in Washington Co. It is on the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, and on the Pawtucket River. It is widely known on account of its extensive granite quarries. It has, in addition, manufactures of flannel, cotton and woolen goods and printing pre es. It has a public library and a Soldiers’ Memorial Building. Pop. (1920) 9,952.
