LUDWIG KARL, 1785-1863. Prof. at Göttingen 1830-37, and Berlin from 1841. His German Grammar, 1819-40, and Dictionary, 1854–85, are of great value. Mythology, 1844; Hist. German Language, 1848. Through life he was closely a ociated with his brother, WILHELM KARL, 1786-1859, who was also prof. at Göttingen and Berlin, and wrote much on ancient German poetry and legends. The two compiled the famous Fairy Tales, 1812.
