Spoken

A ve el is said to have been „Spoken” when communication is held between her and another ship at sea, either by speaking or signalling; the particulars of which, viz*: the date, when spoken with, the Latitude and Longitude where met with, etc. to be reported by such other ve el at her port of destination, or first port of call. The ve el which reports another may be sailing in a different direction, or on the same route but sailing faster, as a steamer pa ing a sailing ship, steering the same course.
