(bash'yah.) (Bot.) A gen. of plants, O. Sapotaceæ, consisting of trees with entire leaves and axillary flowers. B. butyracea is the Indian Butter-tree; B. park ii is the Shea-tree or Butter-tree of Africa, which yields from its kernels, by pre ure, a white, firm, rich butter; B. long i folia, the Elloopa-tree of Coromandel; and B. latifolia, the Madhuca-tree of Bengal.
