Astrolithology

To prepare it, a mixture of 80 parts of silica, 120 lead-oxide, 72 carbonate of soda, and 18 anhydrous borax, is fused either with 24 parts of scale oxide of copper, or 1 part of scale oxide of iron. The mixture is fused in a He ian crucible, at the heat of an ordinary air-furnace, and left to cool slowly in the furnace.
