Batatas

(bah-tāh'tas.) (Bot.) A genus of deciduous climbers, O. Convo'vulacex. The Sweet Potato, B. edulis, a native of India, is much cultivated in all the hotter parts of the world, and especially in the Southern States of the American Union, for the sake of its fleshy sweet tubers,which are greatly esteemed as an article of food.
