an extensive group of myptogamic plants, including mushrooms, toadstools, rusts, smuts, and mildews. With the Alge (seaweed, ete.) they form the great subdivision of the vegetable kingdom known as Thallophyta, but, unlike the Algme, they are all parasites or saprophytes without chlorophyll.
