Ohio River

One of the largest tributaries of the Mi i ippi, discovered by La Salle in 1669. Its short portages from Lake Erie to the navigable tributaries of the Ohio, and the continuous waterway to the Gulf of Mexico, made the river an important route for the explorer, mi ionary, and settler of the early colonial days.
