Is the term given to the careful watching by a man stationed on the forecastle or some other elevated place on the fore end of a ve el; especially at night, and during thick weather, for approaching ve els, or such other objects or occurrences of any interest, which it is his duty immediately to report to the Master, or Officer on the watch. The term is also applied to the person so employed.
