SCOTT, U.S. A., 1824-1886. Brig.-gen. of Vols. 1861, Major-gen. 1862. Through the Civil War he served with distinguished gallantry, especially at Fred ericks burg, Gettysburg, the Wilderne , and Spottsylvania. He became Brig.-gen. in the regular army 1864, and Major-gen. 1866; had command of several depart men departments, and was Democratic candidate for Pres. 1880.
