pawz, n. A temporary stop or rest; ce ation; suspense; hesitation: a mark of ce ation or intermi ion of the voice: a point. (Mas.) A character, thus ['•V], placed over a note or rest, to indicate that the tone or the silence is to be prolonged yond the regular time; a hold. — v. i. [paused (pawzd), pausing.] To make a short stop, cease a time; to be intermitted, stay, wait, delay, hesitate, demur.
