Erythrina

[Gr. erythros, red.] ( Bot.) A genus of plants, order Fabacea. They are small trees, shrubs, and under-shrubs, natives of America and the E. and W. Indies. Nearly all the species are remarkable for the brilliant scarlet color of their flowers, owing to which they are much cultivated as stove-plants, and commonly called the coral-tree.
