CENTRAL PARK

greatest park in Manhattan Borough, of New York City, extending from 59th Street to 110th Street and from 5th Avenue to 8th Avenue. It is over 2144 miles long and more than half a mile wide. It covers 843 acres, of which 400 are in forest while 185 are in lakes and reservoirs. There are 31 miles in walks. Over half a million trees and shrubs add beauty to the park. Work was begun on it in 1857, and over $30,000,000 have been expended in bringing it to its present condition. It is graced with many statues and monuments, the latter including an Egytian obelisk, and has botanical and, Bee cordens, baseball grounds and courts.
