The property which certain very soluble salts and other bodies po e of absorbing moisture from the atmosphere. This property is made use of in drying salts, ., the substance being placed over another substance which absorbs water from the air, as sulphuric acid, chloride of calcium, quicklime, ., in an air-tight ve el called a desiccator.
