[A diminutive of Eng. lance.] Ichthyology: 1. Amphioxus lanceolatus , a transparent and iridescent fish about three inches long, with a fin extending nearly from the snout to the hinder extremity. The skeleton is imperfectly developed, the blood colorle ; no proper skull or brain. It has affinities to the Ascidians. Its movements aro active. It is found in temperate and tropical seas. 2.
