proteroglyph (proteroglif)

A venomous serpent of the group Proteroglypha. Proteroglypha (prot-e-rogʻli-fa), n. pl. [NL. (F. Protéroglyphes, Duméril and Bibron), premaxillaries: thus contrasted with the crotal i form venomous snakes, or Sole no glyph a. Though the general aspect of these snakes is colubrine, or like that of harmle serpents, they are all poisonous, and some of them are among the most deadly of all than at ophidians.
