(ton-tén’) [named from Lorenzo Tonti, an Italian banker who lived in the 17th century]. A kind of life-insurance in which no dividends are paid to the policy-holders until the end of a specified time, when the accumulated dividends are divided among the survivors who have kept up the premiums on their policies.
