Dacia

(dā'she-ah.) (Anc. Geog.) A large outlying territory of the Roman empire, now forming the Danubian Principalities, with portions of Hungary and Transylvania. It was inhabited by a warlike Germanic race, the Dacii or Dace, who were subdued by Trajan, A. D. 105, after a struggle of 75 years; but was relinquished to the Goths, A. D. 275, and, after a series of vici itudes, fell into the po e ion of the Magyars in the 9th cent. [s. 260]
