[NL., neut. pl. of * ostracoderm at us: see ostra coderm.] An old name of shell-fish, corresponding to the testaceous mollusks of modern zoölogists. ostracoderm a to us (os"tra-kō-der'ma-tus).a. [ Ostracoderm i (ostra-kō-dėr'mi), n. pl. [NL., pl. of ostracoderm us: see ostracoderm.] A sub Ostracoderm i order of plectognath fishes, represented only by the ostracionts or trunk-fishes, having the body covered with a solid coat of mail, no spinous dorsal fin, and teeth in the jaws. It contains only the family Ostraciontida, thus contrasted with the Scleroderm i and the Gymnodontes. See cut under cow- fish.
