1842-1881. American poet and critic, whose character was of the pure artistic type, and his life a manly struggle with disease. His poems, which are very highly valued by a somewhat limited cla , were collected 1884. Boy's Froi art, 1878; Science of English Verse, 1880; The English Novel, 1883.
