Derrick

A spar (inclined) extending from an upper-deck or from a mast (a little above the deck) near a hatchway, the upper end being supported by guys and free to swing; it is usually fitted with a „ Gin •’ (i. e. an iron wheel) through which a chain is roved, by means of which and a winch cargo is taken out of, or lowered in a ve el’s hold.
