Diaspore

(di'ds-por.) [From Gr. diaspora, a scattering.] (Min.) A laminated mineral, consisting of alumina, water, and ferruginous oxide. A small fragment decrepitates when heated, and is dispersed in numerous particles: whence the name. Sp. gr. 3.3 to 3.5. [s. 284]
