Entab´lature

(Lat. in , and tabula , a tablet), in architecture, the horizontal, continuous work which rests upon a row of columns, and belongs especially to cla ical architecture. It consists of three principal divisions—the architrave immediately above the abacus of the column, next the frieze , and then the cornice . In large buildings projections similar to and known also as entablatures are often carried round the whole edifice, or along one front of it.
