Flooder

One who floods or irrigates. Flood'-gate, n. A door or gate placed at the point of discharge of a large land-drain or sewer into a river, for the purpose of allowing the escape of the inland waters, during the intervals of the tides, or of the high waters in the rivers. Generally speaking, they are made with the hinges upon the upper side, and they open outwards; but they are occasionally made with vertical hinges, so hung that when the pre ure of the inside waters exceeds that of the outside, the gates shall open. -Avenue; pa age; vent; opening; as, flood- gates of sorrow.
